Empowering Community Organizations

Welcome to Oklahoma road sign with slogan.

IN OKLAHOMA...

  •  Civic participation shapes the policies that affect women, families, schools, and communities.
  • Domestic violence continues to threaten the safety, health, and economic stability of countless women and families.
  • Many women experience incarceration after circumstances shaped by poverty, trauma, abuse, addiction, or systemic barriers.
  • Pregnancy and maternal health outcomes remain inequitable, making access to quality healthcare a critical concern.
  • Persistent wage disparities make it more difficult for many women to achieve long-term economic security.
  • Reproductive justice recognizes that every person deserves the ability to make informed decisions about their ENTIRE body, family, and future.
  • Feminism seeks to address the systemic inequalities that continue to affect women while intentionally expanding the movement to include historically marginalized communities.

Our Programs

Our programs center around four annual community events that bring strategic partners together concerning the Unified Sisterhood's Seven Core Issues. These Intentional Solidarity Events make information more accessible by bringing experts directly to the public rather than expecting  the community to navigate each issue independently.

Independent Partnerships

The Unified Sisterhood partners with independent organizations that are already leading meaningful work within each of our Seven Core Topic areas. These partnerships are collaborative rather than hierarchical. Partner organizations remain fully independent and retain their own leadership, mission, legal status, governance, and public positions.

A partnership with the Unified Sisterhood does not constitute an endorsement of every position, activity, or viewpoint held by another partner organization. Likewise, partner organizations are not expected to adopt or advocate every position of the Unified Sisterhood. Collaboration exists where our shared commitment aligns: advancing women's equality while intentionally expanding  inclusion of marginalized communities through education and collective action.

Unifying the Matriarchy means engaging with organizations seeking to strengthen the solidarity by uniting women across cultures and lived experiences so that expertise, resources, and perspectives are shared to pursue of a common objective of humans feeling supported.

Female Incarceration | Diversion Hub

Female incarceration can disrupt housing, employment, family stability, financial security, and access to essential resources. Through our partnership with Diversion Hub, Unified Sisterhood helps increase public awareness of the circumstances that contribute to justice-system involvement and the importance of creating pathways toward long-term stability rather than continued cycles of incarceration. Diversion Hub connects justice-involved individuals and families with life-stabilizing resources and wraparound support addressing barriers such as housing, employment, transportation, childcare, and other unmet needs. Together, we aim to help the public better understand female incarceration while making supportive community resources more accessible to women and families affected by the justice system.

In 2027, the Unified Sisterhood will offer a course at the Diversion Hub titled The History of Women's Rights. It is designed to be an introductory civic leadership course that explores the history, evolution, successes, shortcomings, and continuing development of women's rights movements while equipping participants with practical advocacy skills. Participants will learn that advocating for women's rights is not solely about improving the lives of women because women’s liberation often produces broader benefits for men, children, families, workplaces, and communities.

Reproductive Justice | Malikah's Hope

Reproductive Justice encompasses far more than pro-choice activism. It recognizes our right to bodily autonomy, to have children or not have children, and to raise families in safe, healthy, and sustainable communities. Our partnership with Malikah's Hope for a Cure Foundation will place special emphasis on the often-overlooked intersection between Breast Cancer Awareness and Reproductive Justice.

Unified Sisterhood will help broaden public understanding that Reproductive Justice means exploring: women's overall health, early detection, reproductive considerations,  economic circumstances, family life, and systemic inequities. Awareness affects our ability to make informed decisions about our bodies so we will include how access to quality healthcare shapes a woman's choices and quality of life. Together, we aim to make breast cancer awareness part of a broader conversation about bodily autonomy, equitable access to care, and the right of every woman to make informed decisions about her own life and body.

Malikah's Hope for a Cure Foundation will be hosting their 6th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event on Saturday, Sept. 19th. Purchase tickets at: TicketStorm

Domestic Violence Awareness | E Peace Counseling

Domestic violence is not limited to physical assault. Abuse can include patterns of emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, and relational control that leave survivors experiencing fear, confusion, diminished self-worth, and lasting trauma. Through our partnership with Empowering Peace Counseling, Unified Sisterhood helps increase public understanding of the many ways intimate partner violence can affect women during an abusive relationship, and unfortunately long after it has ended.

Empowering Peace Counseling specializes in trauma-informed therapy and works with survivors of intimate partner violence, narcissistic abuse, sexual trauma, anxiety, and C-PTSD. Together, we aim to help communities better recognize abusive relationship dynamics, understand the lasting effects of trauma, reduce the stigma surrounding seeking help, and make information about healing and supportive resources more accessible to survivors.

Women's Voting Issues | Liberating Minds

Women's voting issues extend beyond simply encouraging women to show up on Election Day. Understanding how government works, how public policy is created, what appears on a ballot, and how civic participation can influence our communities will help women and all voters more meaningfully exercise the political power that our ancestors fought to secure.

Through our partnership with Foundation for Liberating Minds, Unified Sisterhood will help make civic and political education more accessible while connecting it specifically to the issues affecting Oklahoma women. Foundation for Liberating Minds is a Black-led, multiracial, multicultural abolitionist organization whose work includes transformative political education, community organizing, and movement building. Together, we aim to help people better understand how civic decisions connect to their everyday lives and recognize the power of informed participation without telling anyone which candidate, party, or political ideology they should support.

Inclusive Feminism | Leftist Lezzies

Through our partnership with Leftist Lezzies, Unified Sisterhood helps create space for honest conversations about intersectionality, LGBTQ+ inclusion, racial equity, and the ways exclusion can occur even within movements created to advance women's rights. Together, we aim to move toward a feminist movement where differences do not prevent solidarity from what can sometimes feel like performative inclusion.

Jakky & Kelly are both inspired by Angela Davis's abolitionist feminist framework, which recognizes that gender inequality cannot be separated from racism, economic inequality, incarceration, state and interpersonal violence, homophobia, transphobia, and other interconnected systems that shapes true liberation. Abolitionist feminism challenges us to "imagine a democracy" where "glass ceiling feminism" ensures marginalized women's issues are simply treated as women's issues.

Inclusive Feminism recognizes that women experience patriarchy differently and that meaningful solidarity requires us to intentionally listen to others; so, Leftist Lezzies brings this philosophy into contemporary community conversation by using an unapologetically queer perspective to examine politics, current events, and misinformation on her podcast by bringing different voices together. Sisterhood does not require separating parts of our identity from in order to belong. Through this partnership, we hope to encourage difficult conversations, and challenge assumptions to create a feminist community capable of building solidarity without demanding sameness.; aka truly valuing diversity.

Maternal Health | (Partner Needed)

Maternal health affects the well-being of mothers, infants, and entire families. Through our partnership covering Maternal Health, Unified Sisterhood wishes to increase public awareness of pregnancy, postpartum wellness, periods, fibroids, maternal mortality & morbidity, and the importance of accessible community support. Together, we aim to make trusted maternal health information and supportive resources easier for Oklahoma families to find when they need them most.

Women's Wages | (Partner Needed)

Women's labor is frequently undervalued, underpaid, or treated as unequally less work. Marginalized workers often contribute to profits by providing work not within their job description in exchange for “exposure.”

That expectation mirrors the way women's domestic and caregiving labor has historically been treated. Cooking, cleaning, raising children, caring for relatives, and managing households create enormous economic and social value, yet because this work is so often performed by women, we have normalized receiving much of it without a paycheck. Workers are told exposure is compensation; women at home are told love is compensation. In both cases, value is created while the labor producing it disappears from the economic calculation.

Women generally encounter a similar expectation through emotional and community labor. We are frequently expected to mentor, organize, volunteer, nurture relationships, resolve conflicts, and perform the invisible work that keeps families and workplaces functioning. Often as a norm, women can be asked to continually donate their talents because the meaningful work is expected of them. But, meaningful work is still work! So, caring about our communities should not require women to continually subsidize our 401k's with unpaid labor.

Through our partnership on this topic, Unified Sisterhood will explore how wage inequity affects women and marginalized workers while placing emphasis on the economic value of creative labor and the importance in fairly compensating people for their skill and time. Unpaid women's labor, creates usefulness far beyond the person performing it. Knowledge equates to cultural asset that attracts visitors, increases foot traffic, supports surrounding businesses, and contributes to local economic activity.

When marginalized workers create, our work generates value. So, with this partnership, we hope to connect the broader conversation about Women's Wages to a simple principle that applies whether a person works in an office, a hospital, a classroom,  or a restaurant; because the value created deserves recognition and fair compensation.

Lelamae's Catering

While not a Seven Core Topic partner, Lelamae’s Catering supports Unified Sisterhood’s broader commitment to building community through intentional connection. We believe there is power in breaking bread together, and our partnership allows us to provide food at community events without astronomical food-truck costs while still ensuring that a local business is fairly compensated for its labor. It is a practical example of what solidarity can look like: supporting the local economy through a fair exchange of value while making community gatherings more pleasurable; cause who doesn't like something yummy in their tummy while building  impactful solidarity.

Jakky Lynette

Jakky Lynette is an Oklahoma author, community organizer, and the Founder of Unified Sisterhood.  For years she has been involved in Oklahoma's nonprofit realm and took this opportunity to explore how intentional solidarity, accessible public education, community partnerships, and civic understanding can be brought together to create more meaningful connections to lessen proximities to power for marginalized Oklahomans.

Her writing explores history, social issues, and experiences in the unique ways that they shape communities. Purchasing her books is another way to support her independent work and the ideas that helped inspire the development of Unified Sisterhood.
